Wendy Jie Wang (b.2003, Shanghai) currently works and lives in Massachusetts. She recently completed her BFA with Art History Thesis, with distinction at the school of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her paintings explore ideas of ambiguity and uncertainty as generative forces, existing in the tension between figuration and nonpresentational narratives. Through the translucent, reflective nature of tempera painting, the viewer is tempted to uncover the hidden marks beneath layers of color and brushstrokes. Her repetitive, ritual-like techniques raise questions about the Western tradition of reasoning, which smooths unexplained history out into a flatness called truth. Her paintings invite viewers to peel back the layers, offering a tactile, meditative experience that transforms into one of quiet revelation. Her works were recently exhibited in: TONGUE, Pingze Project, London, UK (2025); Imprint of Time, Chicago Bridgeport Art Center, Chicago, US (2025); and a city to wear, The Research House for Asian Art, Chicago, US (2024); and her works was also published in Asterisk* Yale Undergraduate Journal of Art and Art History, Fall 2024 issue.
